Morwenna Banks

Description
Morwenna Banks is a British actress, comedian, and writer who has provided voice work for various animated productions, including the English-language dub of the Japanese anime film Mary and the Witch's Flower. Born in Redruth, Cornwall, on September 20, 1961, she was a member of the prestigious Cambridge Footlights theatrical club while studying at the University of Cambridge. Her career spans both on-screen and voice acting, with a significant role as a cast member on the American sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live during its twentieth season.

In the context of anime voice work, Banks is known for her role in the 2017 Studio Ponoc film Mary and the Witch's Flower, the first feature from the studio founded by former Studio Ghibli producers. In the English dub of this film, directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, she voices the character Miss Banks. The film's English-language cast also included notable actors such as Kate Winslet, Jim Broadbent, and Ruby Barnhill.

Beyond this specific anime credit, Banks has an extensive career in animation voice acting, particularly within British children's television. She is widely recognized as the long-standing voice of Mummy Pig, Madame Gazelle, and Dr. Hamster in the globally successful preschool series Peppa Pig. Her other prominent voice roles include Queen Marigold in Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom, a role for which she won the Best Voice Performance award at the 2014 British Animation Awards. She also provided voices for the animated series The Adventures of Paddington, Meg and Mog, and Stressed Eric, among others.

In addition to her voice acting, Banks is an accomplished writer and producer. She has written for television series such as Slow Horses and adapted the novel Funny Girl into the TV series Funny Woman. Her radio play Goodbye earned her the prestigious Tinniswood Award in 2015, and she later adapted it into the feature film Miss You Already.
