Torsten Michaelis was a German actor and voice artist, recognized for his extensive work in film, television, and particularly in dubbing for German-language versions of international productions. Born in Berlin on January 31, 1961, he trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts and began his career on stage before transitioning to screen and voice work.

As a voice actor, Michaelis was known for his deep and distinctive voice, which he lent to numerous characters in anime and animated series. Among his most notable roles in this field is the character Askeladd in the German dubbed version of the anime series Vinland Saga. Another key anime role was Deus Ex Machina, the god of time and space, in the German dub of Mirai Nikki: Redial, a special episode of the Future Diary series. His voice work also extended to other major anime franchises, such as providing the German voice for Kayaba Akihiko in Sword Art Online and its film adaptation, Sword Art Online: The Movie - Ordinal Scale.

Beyond anime, Michaelis was one of the most prominent German dubbing actors, serving as the official German voice for several Hollywood stars, including Wesley Snipes, Sean Bean, and Benicio del Toro. His extensive dubbing portfolio encompassed a wide range of live-action films and television series, making his voice familiar to a broad audience. In addition to his voice work, he was a prolific on-screen actor, with roles in the Oscar-winning short film Toyland, the feature film The Reader, and a long-running part as Kriminaldirektor Stefan Bitomsky in the popular German television crime series Tatort.
