Muchimaro
Description
Muchimaro is a Japanese manga artist whose original work provides the basis for the television anime series Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru!. The creator writes and illustrates under the name Muchimaro, which is also written in Japanese as むちまろ.
Muchimaro began professional manga serialization with the supernatural comedy series It’s Just Not My Night: Tale of a Fallen Vampire Queen, known in Japanese as Yo ga Yoru nara!. This work was published in Kodansha’s digital platform Magazine Pocket, running from June 2020 to October 2021. The series was collected into three tankōbon volumes and was later licensed for English release in North America under the Ghost Ship mature imprint of Seven Seas Entertainment.
The artist’s major breakthrough came with the original manga Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru!, which began serialization in Kodansha’s prominent Weekly Shōnen Magazine on April 27, 2022. The series is a yonkoma, or four-panel comic, blending romantic comedy and school life genres. The story follows Ume Mizunoe, a literature-loving student at Fujinasu Academy who joins the student council to avoid repeating a year, only to discover its members are eccentric and unpredictable. As of March 2025, nine compiled volumes have been released under Kodansha’s Shōnen Magazine Comics imprint. The series achieved commercial and critical success, surpassing 1.6 million copies in circulation and winning first place in the print category of the ninth Next Manga Awards in 2023.
In April 2025, an anime adaptation of Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! was officially announced. The television series is produced by the animation studio Passione, with direction by Naoyuki Tatsuwa, series composition and scripts by Masahiro Yokotani, and character designs by Ryo Imamura. Upon the announcement, Muchimaro expressed enthusiasm for seeing the characters animated, stating that the adaptation represented the fulfillment of a major dream.
Earlier work credited to Muchimaro includes providing an end card illustration for the fourth episode of a 2018 series titled Fairy Girl. The artist has also been noted for detailed character anatomy and distinctive visual designs. The manga Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! has been published internationally, including a French-language edition released under the title Les allumés du conseil! by the publisher Meian.
