Ran Kuze

Description
Ran Kuze is a Japanese manga artist who has been active in the industry since at least 2014. One of Kuze's early notable works was as the illustrator for the manga Tokyo Ravens: Sword of Song, a spin-off of the Tokyo Ravens light novel series. Following this, Kuze took on the role of both writer and illustrator for Ni no Kuni: L'heritier de la lumiere et le prince chat, a manga adaptation set in the universe of the Ni no Kuni video game franchise, in 2019.

Kuze is best known as the creator of Medaka Kuroiwa Is Impervious to My Charms. The series began as a one-shot chapter published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in December 2020. Following a positive reception, it was greenlit for full serialization, which commenced in the same magazine on May 26, 2021. Kuze writes and illustrates the series, which represents the creator's first foray into the romantic comedy genre.

The plot of Medaka Kuroiwa Is Impervious to My Charms centers on a high school "queen bee," Mona Kawai, who finds her charms have no effect on a stoic transfer student and aspiring monk, Medaka Kuroiwa. The story, told primarily from Mona's perspective, follows her determined efforts to make him fall for her. The manga is published in English by Kodansha USA, and as of early 2025, the series had surpassed over two million copies in circulation.

An anime television adaptation of the manga was produced by the studio SynergySP and aired from January to March 2025. A second season has been announced. Through this work, Ran Kuze has become established as a creator of successful romantic comedy manga within Weekly Shōnen Magazine, one of Japan's leading manga publications for young male readers.
