Early in her career, she was a two-time recipient of the Afternoon shiki Young Talent Manga Prize, an award presented by the seinen manga magazine Afternoon.

Matsuda is the author of Hikaru in the Light! (Hikaru in the Light!), the series that brought her wider recognition. The story follows middle school student Hikaru Ogino, who works at her family's Tokyo bathhouse and dreams of becoming a pop star. When her best friend Ran, a former child idol, invites her to audition for a competitive pop star survival camp, Hikaru must test her talents against other hopefuls. The series explores the intense pressures of the idol industry while maintaining respect for the dedication and skill required of its performers. The manga is published in English by Scholastic under its Graphix imprint.

Matsuda is also the creator of Hōkago Kitaku Biyori, a romantic comedy manga that began serialization in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine in August 2023. The story centers on a high school student named Shun and his interaction with Naoki Satou, a girl who invites him to join the "Going-Home Club," leading to his reluctant but enthusiastic involvement in its activities. In March 2025, it was announced that the manga has been green-lit for an anime adaptation.
