Description
Sekka Iwata is a manga scriptwriter known as the original creator behind the series Magilumiere Co. Ltd., also published in English as Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc.. Iwata is credited as the writer of the manga, which is illustrated by artist Yu Aoki. The series began serialization on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ website and app in October 2021 and, as of early 2025, has been collected into multiple tankobon volumes. Magilumiere Co. Ltd. marked Iwata's first serialized work. Prior to this series, Iwata wrote a one-shot titled Pen Pal at the End of the World, which was also published on Shonen Jump+ in November 2021.
The manga serves as the foundation for an anime television adaptation. The Magilumiere Co. Ltd. anime, produced by the studios Moe and J.C.Staff, premiered in October 2024 and completed a twelve-episode first season. A second season has since been announced. In the adaptation, Iwata is officially credited for the original work.
As a creator, Iwata's notable work, Magilumiere Co. Ltd., is recognized for its distinctive take on the magical girl genre. The narrative reimagines magical girls as corporate professionals in a specialized industry, where they work for various companies to exterminate supernatural creatures called Kaii. The series blends elements of fantasy with workplace comedy and a focus on business ethics and teamwork, often using programming and engineering terminology in place of traditional magical incantations. The work has garnered industry recognition, winning third place in the web manga category of the Next Manga Awards in 2022.
