Mabel Cezar

Description
Mabel Cezar is a highly accomplished Brazilian voice actor, director, and narrator, recognized as one of the most prominent and versatile voices in the country's dubbing industry. Born Amabel dos Santos Cezar in Rio de Janeiro on October 20, 1975, her artistic career began at the age of 18 when she responded to a newspaper advertisement for a dubbing course, a decision that required her to also study theater. This marked the start of a prolific journey that would see her voice become familiar to Brazilian audiences across thousands of characters.

Her career quickly gained momentum after being hired by the renowned Herbert Richers Studios, where she landed her first major role as the title character in the animated series Little Lulu. This early success paved the way for a string of iconic performances. She is widely known as the official Portuguese voice of Minnie Mouse for the Walt Disney Company, a role that extends across animations, live shows like Disney on Ice, toys, and electronic devices. Another signature Disney role is that of Jessie the cowgirl in the Toy Story franchise, a part she has voiced since Toy Story 2.

Beyond animation, Cezar has demonstrated remarkable range in dubbing live-action productions. She is celebrated for her long-standing work as the voice of Janet "Jay" Kyle, portrayed by Tisha Campbell-Martin, in the popular sitcom My Wife and Kids. She also voiced the title character in the Mexican telenovela Rubi and took over the role of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in the Star Wars saga for all films following the franchise's acquisition by Disney. Her extensive filmography includes being the regular dubbing voice for actresses such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anne Hathaway, Selma Blair, and Téa Leoni, among many others. In television, she has lent her voice to characters in series like Orange Is the New Black (as Piper Chapman), Grey's Anatomy, and Lost.

Her contributions to anime are also significant. Among her noted roles are Piyomon and its evolutions in Digimon and Digimon 02, the young Genkai in Yu Yu Hakusho, and Violet de Behemoth in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. Regarding the specific example of Bella Yaga from Earwig and the Witch, this role is not listed among the primary sources detailing her voice work. However, given her vast and varied career, her involvement in such a project would be consistent with her profile as a dubbing artist.

In 2013, Cezar's distinctive voice became a staple for Brazilian television viewers when she was invited to narrate the promotional spots for the prime-time telenovela Joia Rara on TV Globo. This marked the beginning of her ongoing role as a standard narrator for the network's entertainment programming. Beyond performance, she is also an educator and entrepreneur. She has taught dubbing for many years and, in 2016, co-founded the Sociedade Brasileira de Dublagem (Brazilian Dubbing Society) with her wife, translator Rayani Immediato, an institution dedicated to offering professional courses in dubbing and translation. Her excellence in the field has been recognized with significant accolades, including a Yamato Award for Best Lead Dubbing Actress in 2011 for her work in Megamind and, in 2023, the prestigious Voice Arts Apex Award in the United States, often referred to as the Oscar of Voice Acting.
