Mao Nanami

Mao Nanami, also known by the Japanese name Nanami Mao, is a Japanese manga artist whose work has been adapted into both anime and live-action films. Nanami is primarily recognized as the creator of the manga series 3D Kanojo, which is known internationally as Real Girl. This romantic comedy manga was serialized in Kodansha's Dessert magazine, a publication geared towards少女漫畫, from July 2011 to May 2016. The series was a commercial success, compiling twelve tankōbon volumes and achieving over 1.2 million copies in print.
The popularity of 3D Kanojo led to its adaptation into a twelve-episode anime television series, which premiered in April 2018. The anime adaptation was produced by Hoods Entertainment and directed by Takashi Naoya. Following the first season, a second season of the anime aired in January 2019. The same year the anime first aired, a live-action film adaptation of the manga, also titled 3D Kanojo Real Girl, was released in Japanese theaters in September 2018. Beyond her most famous work, Nanami has created several other manga series. These include earlier works such as U-18, Hello Good-bye, Half and Half, and Princess Mom! which were also published in Dessert. More recently, in December 2019, Nanami launched a new series titled Bokura no Star Girl in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine.
