Sankaku Head

Description
Sankaku Head is a Japanese manga artist born on March 10, 1986, in Yamanashi Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who also aspired to be a manga creator, he began drawing at a young age and pursued his own career in the industry after working as an office worker. His professional debut came in 2008 with the serialization of Pontera in Monthly Comic BLADE. He is married and has children.

The artist is best known for creating the popular comedy manga Himouto! Umaru-chan, which was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2013 to 2017. The series, about a seemingly perfect high school girl who transforms into a lazy, gaming-obsessed chibi at home, became a significant success. It inspired multiple spin-off manga series, including Himōto! Umaru-chan SS, as well as two television anime adaptations: Himouto! Umaru-chan in 2015 and Himouto! Umaru-chan R in 2017. The anime’s popularity further cemented the work’s status as a notable title in the slice-of-life comedy genre.

Beyond his most famous work, Sankaku Head has created a range of other manga series. His bibliography includes Pontera (2008-2010), The Laughing Neveland (2010-2012), Stop It, Chuni-kun! (2011-2012), Maid in Hikkomuse (2018-2020), and Heisei Shōnen Dan (2021-2023). He continues to produce new work, launching a series titled Boku no Manamusume in early 2024.

His artistic identity is strongly tied to comedy and parody. His distinctive self-portrait, from which his pen name is derived, originally appeared as a triangular-headed character in his early work, later evolving into a square-headed figure. His narrative style often features exaggerated character quirks and lighthearted, relatable humor.

In the industry, Sankaku Head is recognized for his consistent output and the broad appeal of his character-driven comedies. In February 2026, he announced his decision to step back from a weekly serialization schedule, citing age and a desire to spend more time with his children, signaling a shift to a monthly publication pace for his future work.
