Helena Van Cort

Description
Helena Van Koert is an American voice actor known for her work on the English-language adaptations of Japanese anime series produced during the early 1980s. She was part of a core group of performers, often associated with the production team at Echo Productions, that provided voices for programs created in collaboration with Tatsunoko Productions and the Christian Broadcasting Network. Van Koert was the daughter of voice actors Ray Owens and Sonia Owens, who were also integral members of this dubbing ensemble.

Her most prominent and documented role is providing the voice of the robot Gizmo in the anime series Superbook. Superbook originally aired from 1981 to 1983 and was produced in two distinct seasons. Van Koert voiced Gizmo for the entirety of the show's run, credited for all 52 episodes. The character was a central figure, serving as a companion to the child protagonists on their biblical adventures. In the second season of Superbook, the character of Gizmo was redesigned as a more sophisticated robot, and Van Koert continued in the role, with the exception of the final episode where the voice was performed by Billie Lou Watt. In addition to Superbook, her known credits include the related series The Flying House, which aired in 1982. Her work was part of a broader effort to localize these anime series for an English-speaking audience, contributing to the lasting presence of these shows in syndication.
