Junpei Gotō

Description
Junpei Gotō is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on March 20, 1984, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He is well known as a member of the Japanese comedy duo Jaru Jaru, with whom he has performed in various live-action television dramas and films since his career began around 2007. In addition to his on-screen comedic work, Gotō has expanded his career into voice acting, using his distinct vocal style to bring animated characters to life.

In the field of anime voice acting, Gotō is recognized for his guest role in the 2024 film Wonderful Precure! The Movie! Doki Doki Game no Sekai de Daiboken, which is part of the long-running Pretty Cure franchise. In this film, he voices the character Ponta, who is one half of a pair of friendly tanuki (raccoon-dog) brothers known as the Tanuki no Nakayoshi Brothers. Ponta is characterized as a fluffy tanuki who has a unique verbal tic, often ending his sentences with the suffix pon. This casting choice was notable as it brought the comedic talents of the Jaru Jaru duo into the animated film, with Gotō's comedy partner, Shūsuke Fukutoku, voicing the other brother, Pokota. The duo also produced collaborative comedy skits with the Pretty Cure franchise to promote the film, which was released in Japan in September 2024.

Beyond his work in the Pretty Cure franchise, Gotō has primarily focused on his career as a comedic actor in live-action Japanese cinema, appearing in films such as Gun, Ice Cream Fever, and the youth film Rock Journey. His transition into anime voice acting represents an expansion of his performance career, drawing on his established comedic timing and character work.
