Description
Kotatsu is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator known for creating the web manga I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? (ニートくノ一となぜか同棲はじめました), which has been adapted into an anime television series. Operating under the name Kotatsu, the creator is also recognized for work as a character designer and commercial illustrator on various video game projects.

Kotatsu began publishing I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? on a Twitter account in January 2020 before serializing it on Niconico Seiga’s No. 9 Comic platform the following month. The series is a collaboration where Kotatsu is credited for the illustrations and original concept, working alongside Yakitomato, who is credited for the storyboards. ASCII Media Works began releasing the series in print tankōbon volumes in August 2021. The manga’s growing popularity led to an anime television adaptation produced by the studio Quad, which premiered in January 2025. Kotatsu has continued to illustrate the series as it remains in publication.

Beyond this work, Kotatsu has built a career as an illustrator and character designer for the gaming industry. Credits include contributing to official guide comics for games such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Shadowverse Champions Battle, and the Square Enix title The Sky and Wings of Paradox. Kotatsu has also provided illustrations for trading card games, including the Lord of Vermilion series, Sega’s Sangokushi Taisen, and Capcom’s Onimusha Soul, as well as creating LINE stamps for the Love Live! Sunshine!! franchise. This body of work demonstrates a consistent professional relationship with major Japanese game publishers such as Nintendo, Sega, Cygames, and Square Enix.

As an artist, Kotatsu’s style reflects a particular interest in dynamic character design and an appreciation for physical expressiveness. This interest is evident in a portfolio that frequently includes fan art of classic fighting games, with a notable focus on characters defined by strong, athletic builds. This enthusiasm for bold character design carries over into original work, where characters are rendered with expressive personalities and distinct visual traits. Kotatsu’s commercial work has extended to international properties as well, including illustration work for Marvel Comics.
