Sonoya Mizuno

Description
Sonoya Mizuno is a British actress who began her career in live-action film and television before expanding into voice acting for animated projects. Born in Tokyo and raised in the United Kingdom, she trained as a ballet dancer at the Royal Ballet School before transitioning to acting and modeling. Her on-screen career includes prominent roles in films such as Ex Machina, La La Land, and Crazy Rich Asians, as well as the television series Maniac, Devs, and House of the Dragon.

Mizuno's entry into voice acting for anime and animated series began in the early 2020s. One of her first roles in this field was providing the voice of a Dark Side Nakime in the Star Wars: Visions series in 2021. She also lent her voice to the character of a police operator in the 2022 film Men.

Her most significant voice role to date is in the 2024 Netflix anime series Terminator Zero, which marked her first major foray into voicing a lead character in an animated series. In Terminator Zero, Mizuno voices Eiko, a resistance fighter from a post-apocalyptic future who is sent back in time to the year 1997. Her mission is to protect a computer programmer named Malcolm Lee, who is on the verge of launching an advanced AI called Kokoro to rival the malicious Skynet. The series, produced by the Japanese animation studio Production I.G, was released on Netflix on August 29, 2024.

While Mizuno's career has been defined by her work with directors like Alex Garland and her performances in major live-action franchises, her role in Terminator Zero represents a significant step into the world of anime voice acting. Her performance as Eiko places her within a notable cast that includes Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator, Rosario Dawson as Kokoro, and Ann Dowd as The Prophet. As of late 2024, Terminator Zero stands as her most prominent anime voice credit.
