Tetsurō Sagawa was a Japanese actor and voice actor born on January 22, 1937 in Tateyama, Chiba, Japan. A graduate of Waseda University, he began his career in the entertainment industry in 1964 and remained active until his death in 2021. He passed away on February 17, 2021 at the age of 84 due to complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Throughout his extensive career, Sagawa was known for his deep voice, which made him a popular choice for authoritative and masculine roles in both animation and live-action dubbing. He provided the Japanese dub voice for numerous prominent international actors, including Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, and Henry Fonda. Some of his notable dubbing roles include Jake Gittes in Chinatown, Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West, Douglas Roberts in Mister Roberts, and President James Dale in Mars Attacks!. He was also the Japanese voice of Quint in a TV Tokyo dub of Jaws and George Banks in a Fuji TV dub of Mary Poppins.

In the realm of anime, Sagawa is perhaps best known for his leading role as the titular assassin Duke Togo, also known as Golgo 13, in the 1983 theatrical film Golgo 13: The Professional. His other significant anime roles across film and television include the character Plato in Alexander: The Movie (Alexander Senki), Magane Hyūga in Super Atragon, and the historical figure Guan Yu in the anime adaptations Sangokushi and Sangokushi II: Amakakeru Otokotachi. He also voiced the character Nagato Fujibayashi in the film Dai Ninjutsu Eiga: Watari, which relates to the series Watari the Ninja Boy. Other voice credits include roles in works such as Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

In addition to his anime work, Sagawa had a significant presence in Japanese television dramas and the tokusatsu genre. He was well known for playing the role of Captain Ryu, the stern yet kind-hearted captain of TAC, in the Ultra Series television show Ultraman Ace. He also served as the narrator for subsequent series Ultraman Taro and Ultraman Leo. His live-action television drama credits also include roles in historical jidaigeki productions such as Haru no Sakamichi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
