Toshirō Yanagiba

Description
Toshirō Yanagiba is a Japanese actor born on January 3, 1961, who has occasionally performed voice work for anime and animated films. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a member of the theater group Gekidan Himawari before joining the street performance troupe Gekidan Otoko Ippiki Gō, later becoming part of the popular 1980s歌舞伎表演团体 known as Ippū Fūsei Sepia.

In the realm of voice acting, Yanagiba is best known for his role in the Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday (Omoide Poroporo), released in 1991. In this film, directed by Isao Takahata, he provided the Japanese voice for the character Toshio, a young farmer who meets the protagonist Taeko during her countryside visit. He also performed the voice of Ōkido in the series Pocket ni Bōken wo Tsumekonde.

Yanagiba played the role of Kazuyuki Asakawa in the 1999 television series Ring: Saishūshō. He also portrayed Shirō Sanada in the 2010 live-action film adaptation Space Battleship Yamato. It is important to note that while his role in Space Battleship Yamato is based on an anime franchise, the 2010 project is a live-action film rather than an animated series. The character Shirō Sanada has been voiced by other actors in the original anime productions.

While Yanagiba has an extensive and varied career in Japanese cinema and television drama, his credited voice roles in anime are limited. His performance in Only Yesterday remains his most prominent and widely recognized contribution to animated film. He continues to work as a screen actor in a range of supporting and lead roles across film and television series.
