Daijirō Harada

Description
Daijirō Harada, born on April 5, 1944, in Yokohama, Japan, is an actor whose career spans across film, television, and stage, with a selection of work in anime voice acting. He is known for bringing a sense of gravitas and experience to his roles, often portraying characters with a strong or mysterious presence. While primarily recognized for his extensive work in live-action cinema, including notable films such as The Fall Guy, Eros + Massacre, and appearances in the Kamen Rider franchise, his voice acting credits form a distinctive part of his artistic output.

His voice roles in anime are few but include performances in several notable projects. In the 2000 anime film The Boy Who Saw the Wind, Harada provided the voice for the character Tabal, also known as Tarbal or Taval. Another significant voice role came in 2004 with the internationally acclaimed Studio Ghibli film Howl's Moving Castle, where he voiced the character Heen, the royal sorceress's loyal and somewhat lethargic dog. The same year, he also contributed to the anime series Soreike! Zukkoke Sanningumi. For viewers of 1980s anime, he is recognized for his role as Kyōzō Zeniya in the special Cat's Eye: Midnight wa Koi no Aventure, based on the popular series. His work in the tokusatsu genre, which shares a significant audience with anime, includes the role of Iwao Himuro in Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue.

His work on Howl's Moving Castle stands as his most internationally recognized achievement in animation, being part of a film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and voiced by a cast that includes other notable actors. His career exemplifies a path common among many Japanese performers, where a primary focus on live-action acting is complemented by select, memorable forays into voice work for anime and animated films.
