Wakana Matsumoto

Description
Wakana Matsumoto is a Japanese performer known primarily as an actress and model, with a limited but growing number of credits in voice acting and motion capture for anime and film. Born on February 25, 1984, in Tottori Prefecture, she began her entertainment career in 2007, gaining initial recognition for her live-action role in the television series Kamen Rider Den-O.

As a voice actor, Matsumoto is best known for her role as Macrophage in the live-action film adaptation of Cells at Work!, released in December 2024. This character is also featured in the anime series of the same name, though her involvement primarily concerns the live-action version. Her other work related to animation includes providing motion capture performance for the characters Nami and Mime in the 2013 feature film Harlock: Space Pirate. She is also credited in the anthology series Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories.

While voice roles are a part of her portfolio, the majority of Matsumoto's career has been in live-action television and film. Her extensive filmography includes leading and supporting parts in numerous dramas such as Saionji-san wa Kaji wo Shinai and My Treasure, as well as films like My Girlfriend is a Geek. In recognition of her work across these visual media, she was awarded the Newcomer Award at the 2025 Elan d'or Awards, an honor given to actors and producers who have been active in movies and television dramas. Despite being primarily a live-action actress, her portrayal of Macrophage remains her most recognized contribution to anime-related media.
