Hironobu Kageyama
Description
Hironobu Kageyama is a Japanese musical artist and voice actor, born on February 18, 1961, in Osaka, Japan. While he is primarily renowned as one of the most prominent singers of anison, or anime theme songs, his career also includes select, notable voice acting roles.
Kageyama began his career in entertainment at the age of 16 as the lead vocalist for the rock band LAZY. After the band disbanded in the early 1980s, he pursued a solo career. He found his musical niche and massive success by performing theme songs for anime and tokusatsu (live-action special effects) series. This led to him being dubbed the Prince of Anime/Tokusatsu Songs. He is particularly celebrated for his contributions to the Dragon Ball Z franchise, including the iconic opening themes CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA and WE GOTTA POWER, which earned him the nickname Mr. DBZ among fans. His extensive discography also includes numerous theme songs for the Super Sentai series, such as for Dengeki Sentai Changeman, Hikari Sentai Maskman, and Chojin Sentai Jetman. In 1998, he formed the supergroup JAM Project with fellow anison singers, a project in which he continues to serve as a leading member.
Kageyama's work as a voice actor is closely tied to the Garo franchise, in which he has performed the voice of the recurring character Zaruba. Zaruba is a Madō Ring, a sentient magical ring that acts as a guide and partner to the protagonist, the Golden Knight Garo. Kageyama first voiced the character in the live-action tokusatsu series, and he continued the role across multiple animated installments of the franchise. His voice work in animation includes the television series Garo: The Carved Seal of Flames, where his performance is credited for the character Madou Ring Zaruba. He also voiced Zaruba in the subsequent film Garo: Divine Flame, reprising his role as the character from the earlier animated series. Through these performances, Kageyama established a recurring collaboration with the Garo anime universe, lending his distinctive voice to one of its most iconic supporting characters. While this role represents his most prominent voice acting credit, his primary and most celebrated career remains his extensive and influential body of work as a vocalist and composer for anime and tokusatsu music.
