Imigimuru
Description
Imigimuru is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator known for creating the manga series This Art Club Has a Problem! which was adapted into an anime television series in 2016. Born in Hyogo Prefecture, their birthday is November 29. The pen name Imigimuru is derived by deconstructing the kanji characters of their real name; it was originally intended to be written in katakana as Imigimuru, but was changed to the hiragana form to avoid being mistaken for a Korean name.
Imigimuru's aspiration to pursue a career in drawing began in elementary school, influenced by reading Weekly Shonen Jump series such as Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Rurouni Kenshin, and Hoshin Engi. They were particularly motivated to become a manga artist after seeing illustrations of Azumanga Daioh by Kiyohiko Azuma, which they had drawn on postcards, published in a reader's column in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh. Their professional debut came after winning the Dengeki Comic Grand Prize in 2007.
Imigimuru's first commercially serialized work was the manga Kimi ni Kou Are!!, published in Monthly Comic Gum from 2007 to 2009. This was followed by the series Saito-kun wa Chounouryokusha Rashii, which ran in the same magazine from 2011 to 2013. The artist's most recognized work, Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru! (This Art Club Has a Problem!), began serialization in Dengeki Maoh in October 2012 and has been published in multiple tankobon volumes. The series had accumulated over one million copies in print by August 2021. In the anime adaptation, Imigimuru is credited as the original manga creator and also as the original character designer.
Beyond their own serialized manga, Imigimuru has contributed illustrations and character designs for other media. They have worked as an official illustrator for the game Fate/Grand Order and provided the character designs for the 2022 original television anime series Lycoris Recoil. Their work as an illustrator also includes the light novel series Make Heroine ga Oisugiru! (Too Many Losing Heroines!), for which they have drawn the cover art and interior illustrations since 2021. In November 2024, it was announced that Imigimuru had ranked first in the illustrator category for Takarajimasha's annual guidebook Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2025. A collection of their work, the art book Imigimuru Art Works fruits, was published in February 2020.
