George Newbern

George Young Newbern is an American television, film, and voice actor known for his extensive work in animation and video games. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, he began his acting career at the Arkansas Arts Center before moving into film and television roles in the 1980s. His voice acting career started in 1991 with the animated series The Pirates of Dark Water.
In animation, Newbern is particularly recognized for voicing the character of Hercules in the English dub of the anime series Record of Ragnarok II. He took on the role of the divine Greek hero for the Netflix anime production. Another highly notable role in Japanese-produced media is his work as the voice of Sephiroth, the iconic antagonist from the Final Fantasy series. Newbern voiced Sephiroth in the English-language releases of the CGI film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, as well as in several related video games including Kingdom Hearts II, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, and the Dissidia series. He was cast in the role after his performance as the character Mevyn Nooj in Final Fantasy X-2 impressed the game's developers, leading him to replace actor Lance Bass as Sephiroth.
Beyond his work in Japanese media, Newbern has had an extensive career in American animation. He is widely known for voicing Superman, the role for which he replaced actor Tim Daly in the Cartoon Network series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. He later reprised the role of Superman in other DC Comics animated projects, including The Batman, Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam, and the film Superman vs. The Elite.
