Eriko Hatsune was born on March 24, 1982 in Tokyo, Japan. Her career in the entertainment industry began in 1998 when she appeared in television commercials. She later attended the Horikoshi High School, a school known for its many alumni in the entertainment field.

While Hatsune is primarily known as a live-action film and television actress, she has also taken on roles in anime and video game voice acting. Her early film work included the leading role of Kirie Goshima in the 2000 horror film Uzumaki, an adaptation of the Junji Ito manga. In the 2013 live-action film adaptation of the anime series Gatchaman, she played the dual role of Naomi and the antagonist Berg Katze.

Beyond these notable genre roles, Hatsune has worked with a range of directors across different styles. She appeared in Tran Anh Hung's 2010 adaptation of Norwegian Wood as Hatsumi and had a leading role as Mitsuko Shinozaki in the 2011 film Being Mitsuko. Her international work includes a lead role as Aya Shimada in the 2012 historical film Emperor, directed by Peter Webber. Her other film credits include Apartment 1303, All-Round Appraiser Q: The Eyes of Mona Lisa, and the 2019 film We Are Little Zombies.

In addition to her on-screen work, she has been noted for having a distinctive voice that has led to roles in video games and animated films. The role of Berg Katze in Gatchaman represents one of her more prominent vocal performances in an anime-related property.
