Kaori Asō is a Japanese voice actress, theatre actress, singer, and composer born on June 26, 1967, in Tokyo, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent agency Amuse, Inc. Before beginning her career in entertainment, Asō graduated from Kyoritsu Women's Junior College and worked at the Bank of Japan for three and a half years. She initially focused on musical theatre and stage work before transitioning to voice acting.
Her voice acting career began with a leading role in the 1995 anime television series Nurse Angel Ririka SOS, where she voiced the title character, Ririka Moriya, also known as Nurse Angel. This role marked the start of a career spanning numerous anime, video games, and overseas dubbing projects. Asō has taken on a wide variety of anime roles across different decades. She is known for her long-running role as Ai Asato in the anime series Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo, which aired from 1996 to 2004, and also appeared in the series' movie adaptations. In 1999, she voiced Laila Lie in the anime Wild Arms: Twilight Venom. She played the protagonist Mikiko Kuromi-chan Oguro in the 2001 original video animation Animation Runner Kuromi and its 2004 sequel, Animation Runner Kuromi 2. Her other notable anime credits include Mayu Tobita in Kodocha, Plum Spaniel in Sakura Wars: New York NY, the character Grandmother in Sore Shikanai Wake Nai Deshō, and Tikal the Echidna in Sonic X.
In addition to her work in original anime, Asō is highly prolific in voice dubbing for foreign media, particularly for Disney. She is the long-standing Japanese voice of Princess Jasmine, first taking on the role in the 1993 film Aladdin and reprising it in numerous sequels, television series, and video games such as Kingdom Hearts and Ralph Breaks the Internet. She also provided the Japanese voice for Blossom in The Powerpuff Girls, Roxanne in A Goofy Movie, and Rosa in Vivo. Her voice work extends to video games, including the role of Tikal the Echidna in Sonic Adventure.
