Masako Miura
Description
Masako Miura is a respected Japanese voice actress born on November 29, 1959, in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent management firm Arts Vision. Her journey to a voice acting career was not a direct one. Initially aspiring to become a kindergarten teacher, she studied early childhood care at a junior college in Kobe. During this time, she developed an interest in performance, taking a voice actor seminar and creating a children's operetta for her graduation project.
This new passion led her to Tokyo, where she entered the training school affiliated with the Tokyo Actors' Cooperative Association in 1980. Her talent was quickly recognized, and after only ten months of training, she passed an audition and made her debut in 1981. Her first role was as Koyomi Himeguri in the anime series Yattodetaman, part of the Time Bokan series. The following year, 1982, she landed her first leading role as Pollon in the television anime Ochamegami Monogatari Korokoro Poron. Also in 1982, she joined with manager Matsuda to help establish the Arts Vision agency, where she has remained ever since.
The 1980s were a prolific period for Miura, during which she voiced a wide array of characters across numerous series. Demonstrating her versatility, she took on roles such as Mitsuko Sawada in the 1983 series Perman: Birdman ga Yatte Kita!!, Yutaka in Chiisana Love Letter: Mariko to Nemunoki no Kodomo-tachi, and Rel Borgen in Showa Aho Zoshi Akanuke Ichiban!. Her work in the science fiction and fantasy genres included voicing Lisa Achika in Psycho Armor Govarian and Hanamogu in Mock & Sweet. She also took on roles in the Cream Lemon series of OVAs and as Ingrid Shizuka Gruber in the OVA Katsugeki Shōjo Tantei Dan. Other notable credits from this decade include characters in City Hunter 2 and Saint Seiya, and the role of Steffie in the 1991 anime Watashi to Watashi: Futari no Lotte.
A significant milestone in Miura's career began in 1990 when she joined the cast of the enduringly popular series Chibi Maruko-chan. In the first series, she was a regular cast member voicing the character Yumiko Ito. When the second series began in 1995, her role transitioned to the character Kazuko Sasayama, a part she has continued to play for many years. This long-standing association with a major anime franchise has made her a familiar voice to Japanese audiences. She also became part of another long-running hit, joining the cast of Crayon Shin-chan in 1994 as the character Yumi Kusaka.
Beyond her most famous roles, Miura has remained active in the industry, contributing her voice to various projects including films, OVAs, and video games.
