Ryūsaku Chijiwa

Description
Ryūsaku Chijiwa, also known by the stage name Ryūsaku Chijiwa, is a Japanese voice actor born on May 27, 1969, in Tokyo. He is affiliated with the agency Production Ace after a career spent freelancing and with several other talent management firms.

Chijiwa's early career path was shaped by a childhood fascination with performance. He was an enthusiastic child who would record entire television programs to listen back to them and bought sound effects records to produce his own radio dramas. He was also passionate about music, learning to play the drums and aiming for a professional career as a band musician. After that dream did not come to fruition, he turned to voice acting, training at the Tokyo Engeki Gakuin, the Tokyo Announce Academy, and the training school attached to the agency Mausu Promotion. Over the years, he has been a member of several agencies, including Dōjinsha Production, Mausu Promotion (from 2005 to 2009), Gadget Link, and Aptopro.

A significant milestone in his animation career was his first regular role as Ryūsaku Murase in the series The Galaxy Railways. The character's given name, Ryūsaku, was given by the scriptwriter as a tribute to the voice actor himself. He is also widely recognized for his portrayal of the historical figure Kashitarō Itō, a captain of the Shinsengumi, in the long-running franchise Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom. He has voiced the character across numerous television anime series, original video animations (OVAs), and video games in the franchise. He sees supporting roles like this as a distinct pleasure, appreciating the freedom to add creative nuances that a lead character's role might not allow.

His other notable anime roles include Kazamachi Shogen in Basilisk, Orlean in Le Chevalier D'Eon, and Akudaikan in Yoshimune. He has also played the gatekeeper in Vampire Knight and has had guest roles in popular series such as Naruto, Bleach, Hell Girl: Three Vessels, Magical Index, and the second season of Natsume's Book of Friends. Beyond animation, Chijiwa has an extensive career in dubbing foreign films and television series. He is the Japanese voice for Leonard Hofstadter in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, and has provided dubbing for films like G.I. Joe and The Dark Knight.

Known for his adaptable vocal quality and precision in playing side characters, Chijiwa remains a respected journeyman presence in the industry. He continues to work in animation, dubbing, and video games.
