Kazunori Arai

Description
Kazunori Arai is a Japanese voice actor born on May 3, 1958, in Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. His career is primarily defined by extensive work in tokusatsu productions, a genre of live-action film and television that often features heavy use of special effects, where he provided voices for numerous monster characters and villains across several popular franchises.

Arai is perhaps best known for his role as Captain Gedorian in the 1988-1989 series Kamen Rider BLACK RX. Captain Gedorian is a major antagonist and one of the four commanders serving General Jark of the Crisis Empire. The character is notable for his small stature, restless movements, very fast speech, and the ability to fire energy beams from his hands and forehead. Arai also voiced multiple other characters in the preceding series, Kamen Rider BLACK, including the Jewel Beetle Mutant, Porcupine Mutant, and notably the Mouse Mutant, also known as Nezumi-Kaijin.

His filmography demonstrates a long-standing association with Toei Company's tokusatsu franchises, particularly the Super Sentai series. He contributed voices to various monsters in Kousoku Sentai Turboranger (1989), Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman (1990), Choujin Sentai Jetman (1991), Gosei Sentai Dairanger (1993), Ninja Sentai Kakuranger (1994), Chouriki Sentai Ohranger (1995), Denji Sentai Megaranger (1997), and Mirai Sentai Timeranger (2000). His roles in these series were typically for episode-specific villains, such as the Camera Trick in Ohranger, Heatwave Hood in Dairanger, and the Replica Monster in Kakuranger.

Beyond the weekly television series, Arai also participated in theatrical film adaptations. He reprised his role as Captain Gedorian for the 1989 film Kamen Rider Black RX: Run All Over the World. Additionally, he voiced the Camera Trick character again in the 1995 film Chouriki Sentai Ohranger: The Movie.

While his career is dominated by tokusatsu, he appears in at least one feature anime film. In 1992, he was part of the voice cast for Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed Studio Ghibli film Porco Rosso, where he played a member of the Mamma Aiuto Gang, a group of bumbling sky pirates. Arai also made occasional on-screen guest appearances in live-action dramas, including episodes of Hagure Keiji: Junjoha Series 10 and Kaze no Keiji Tokyo Hatsu!.
