Paulo Celestino

Description
Paulo Celestino Filho was a Brazilian actor, voice actor, and dubbing director known for his extensive work in animation. He was born on November 14, 1957, in Rio de Janeiro and passed away on November 7, 2017, at the age of 59.

Celestino began his artistic career in theater and on television, participating in comedy programs such as Viva o Gordo and A Praça É Nossa. He transitioned into voice acting in the late 1980s, working at several studios including Herbert Richers in Rio de Janeiro before moving to São Paulo.

His most iconic role is the Gold Saint Death Mask of Cancer in the classic anime Saint Seiya (known as Os Cavaleiros do Zodíaco in Brazil), a character he voiced from the 1990s onward. This role earned him significant recognition from fans. He reprised this character in subsequent franchise installments, including the CGI film Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary and the series Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, which was released posthumously. Other notable roles in animation include the elephant Babar in Babar and the character Razor in Swat Kats.

In addition to his work in cartoons, Celestino was also known for dubbing live-action actors. He frequently voiced Al Pacino, often citing the challenge of matching the actor's mannerisms, as well as Morgan Freeman, whom he found easier due to their similar vocal tones. He also worked as a dubbing director for television series such as Revenge, Scandal, and Once Upon a Time. He was married to voice actress Vanessa Alves.
