Jean Schwartz

Description
Ellen Gerstell, also known by the stage name Jean Schwartz, is an American voice actress recognized for her work in English-language dubs of anime productions. She is most prominently known for providing the voice of the character Mihoshi Kuramitsu across multiple installments of the Tenchi Muyo! metaseries. Under the name Jean Schwartz, she voiced Mihoshi in the original 1992 Tenchi Muyo! OVA series, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, Tenchi Muyo! The Night Before The Carnival, and the Tenchi Muyo! Mihoshi Special.

Her role as Mihoshi Kuramitsu is the cornerstone of her anime voice acting career. This character, a well-meaning but seemingly accident-prone detective first class for the Galaxy Police, appears throughout the franchise. Beyond the original OVA, Gerstell continued to voice Mihoshi in various Tenchi Muyo! projects. Her portrayal of the character is featured in the television series Tenchi Universe, the film Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love, and the Magical Girl Pretty Sammy OVA, where she played both Chihiro Kawai and a version of Mihoshi Mizutani.

Her body of work, while largely centered on the Tenchi Muyo! universe, includes a role outside the franchise. She provided the voice for the character Page in the English version of the animated film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. In addition to voice acting, Ellen Gerstell, credited under her Jean Schwartz alias, performed the opening theme song for the Tenchi Muyo! Mihoshi Special, showcasing her contribution to the franchise beyond voice work.
