Description
Julie Mayfield was an American voice actress known for her work on English-language dubs of Japanese anime series, primarily for Funimation. Born in 1962, she was based in Fort Worth, Texas, where she built a career contributing to numerous popular titles during the 2000s. Her voice acting portfolio includes several memorable supporting and guest roles that have left a lasting impression on fans of the genre.
Mayfield is perhaps best recognized for her role as Dr. Kureha in the long-running series One Piece. Dr. Kureha is the eccentric and highly skilled physician on Drum Island who becomes the mentor and adoptive mother of Tony Tony Chopper. In the 2019 reboot of Fruits Basket, the role of Kyoko Honda was recast to Lydia Mackay, though Mayfield returned to the franchise to voice the character Okami Sohma in the newer adaptation.
Her work extended to other well-known anime of the era. She voiced the Landlady in the English dub of Shin chan, a role she also performed in a similar capacity for an episode of Ouran High School Host Club. Mayfield also provided the voice for Queen Victoria in Black Butler, specifically in the Emerald Witch Arc. Her other anime credits include Eva Kaden, known as Eri Kisaki in the original Japanese version, in Case Closed, as well as roles in Speed Grapher and Strategic Armored Infantry.
Beyond the world of animation, Julie Mayfield had a career as a stage actress, regularly performing in theaters in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She was also involved in improv comedy, being a member of groups such as 4 out of 5 Doctors and Lone Star Comedy. Her career was marked by a long association with her agency, lasting 35 years.
