Sue Turner-Cray

Description
Sue Turner-Cray is a British actress, director, and writer known for her work in animation, live-action, and theater. She was born in Northampton, England on August 21, 1965. Her introduction to performance came through the Leicestershire Youth Shakespeare Company, which she joined at the age of fifteen, traveling to the Edinburgh Festival and Italy during school holidays. At eighteen, she was offered an opportunity to work as a model in Tokyo, Japan, a role she undertook for five years. This period in Tokyo later inspired her stage show Manchester Girl. After her time in Japan, she pursued professional acting in the United States, attending and graduating from the American Conservatory Theater's two-year advanced training program in San Francisco.

In the field of animation, Turner-Cray provided the voice for the character of Misao Amano, also known as her magical girl alter ego Pixy Misa, in the English dub of the first OVA episode of the anime series Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, a spin-off of the Tenchi Muyo! franchise. The character of Misao Amano is the shy, soft-spoken best friend of the protagonist Sasami, who is transformed into the boisterous villain Pixy Misa. In the English adaptation, Turner-Cray's version of Pixy Misa spoke with a French accent as a character trait. For the remaining two OVA episodes, the role was voiced by Debi Derryberry. Turner-Cray is also credited with the role of Hostess Judy on the animated series Aeon Flux in 1991. Her film voice role includes portraying the mother of the title character in the Disney animated musical fantasy film James and the Giant Peach, released in 1996.

Beyond her voice work, Turner-Cray has had a diverse career. Her stage production Manchester Girl, which she wrote and performed, won a prestigious Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival and had successful runs at London's Riverside Studios and in Los Angeles, where she was nominated for an LA Weekly Award for Best Solo Performance. She produced and co-starred in the play The Country Club, which won four Drama-Logue Awards, including one for her performance. Her other stage roles have included Rose in Dancing at Lughnasa. She also wrote and directed the award-winning short film Through Riley's Eyes, in which she starred, and directed music videos for The Robert Cray Band. Her live-action television appearances include roles on the series The Shield and The Bold and the Beautiful.
