Description
Misao Amano is a young girl who serves as the best friend of Sasami Kawai, the protagonist of the series. In her everyday life, Misao is soft-spoken, kind, and physically frail, often appearing shy and reserved. Her home life is marked by sadness and loneliness: her father, a world-renowned musical composer, abandoned the family, and her mother must work most of the time to support them. This absence leaves Misao feeling unhappy and isolated, contrasting with her friend Sasami's more outgoing nature.

Unknown to Misao, she becomes the unwilling host of the magical alter ego Pixy Misa. The transformation is orchestrated by Ramia, a rival candidate for queen of the magical kingdom of Juraihelm. Ramia, jealous of her sister Tsunami's selection, instructs her brother Rumiya to find a girl to interfere with Tsunami's champion, Pretty Sammy. Rumiya chooses Misao and uses hypnosis to turn her into Pixy Misa, an evil magical girl. As Pixy Misa, Misao undergoes a dramatic personality change: she becomes loud, brash, arrogant, and speaks in French phrases. She revels in chaos and mischief, using a bow-like weapon to summon Love-Love Monsters from everyday objects, which she sends to sabotage Pretty Sammy's efforts to create a better world. Despite her antagonistic role, Pixy Misa's schemes always end in failure.

Throughout most of the series, Misao has no memory of her actions as Pixy Misa. The two personas exist in complete separation: Misao remains unaware that she is the villain opposing her best friend, and Sasami likewise does not know that her enemy is actually Misao. This ironic duality forms the core of the character's dramatic tension. Misao's personal unhappiness—especially her longing for her absent father and her feelings of neglect—provides a psychological foundation for why Rumiya's hypnosis takes hold, as Pixy Misa acts as an outlet for repressed jealousy, anger, and frustration.

Later in the story, Misao is redeemed and transitions from an evil magical girl to a heroic figure. She and Pixy Misa eventually join forces with Pretty Sammy, and Misao's inherent kindness begins to integrate with her magical persona. Her relationships are defined by her close but secretive bond with Sasami, and her role as a foil to Pretty Sammy: where Sasami is optimistic and dutiful, Misao is melancholic and used as a tool by others. Notable abilities include her transformation into Pixy Misa, the power to create Love-Love Monsters, and a flair for theatrical attacks. Her development arc moves from an unknowing antagonist to a redeemed ally, allowing her to reclaim agency over her life and powers.
