Mike D'Gard
Description
Mike D'Gard is the professional pseudonym of American actor Michael Gregory, who was born Gary Steven Meimar in Brooklyn, New York in November 1944. He adopted the Mike D'Gard name primarily for his work dubbing Japanese anime into English, performing voice roles across numerous series and films from the late 1990s onward. Before focusing on voice work, Gregory had a career as a live-action television actor, including a role on the daytime serial General Hospital.
As an anime voice actor, Mike D'Gard is perhaps best known for his role as Laughing Bull, the elderly Native American shaman and spiritual guide, in both the Cowboy Bebop television series and the subsequent film Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. Another notable early role was Gyunter in the OVA series Sol Bianca: The Legacy. His voice acting credits from this period also include diverse characters across several popular anime franchises. He voiced Mitsukake in Fushigi Yugi and its related OVA sequels, the bounty hunter Horis in Outlaw Star, and a bartender in Trigun. Additional roles from the late 1990s and early 2000s include appearances in Serial Experiments Lain as Totem, Baresto in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, and a role in Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure.
During this era, D'Gard also took on significant villainous roles, such as Professor Gill in both Android Kikaider: The Animation and Kikaider-01: The Animation, where he also portrayed the character Gill Hakaider. His film dubbing work includes roles in Armitage: Dual-Matrix and the Manga Video English dub of Hayao Miyazaki's Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, in which he voiced the swordsman Goemon Ishikawa XIII. D'Gard appeared in the Ghost in the Shell franchise several times, playing Tsujisaki in Stand Alone Complex, Renjo Sokichi in 2nd GIG, and Chief Nakamura in Solid State Society. Another notable performance was providing the voice of Guld Goa Bowman in the international Japanese version of Macross Plus.
