Toyohiro Andō
Description
Toyohiro Andō was a Japanese scriptwriter and occasional original creator active in the anime industry from the late 1960s through the 1980s. Born in Osaka Prefecture on January 5, 1935, he graduated from Kansai University before studying under Matsuura Takeo, a writer known for numerous theatrical film scripts. Andō began contributing scripts to television anime in the latter half of the 1960s and became one of the most frequent writers for the animation studio Knack Productions. His most notable role as an original creator is the anime Cybot Robotchi, also known as Cybot Robotchi, for which he is credited as the original author in addition to writing its scripts. Beyond this work, Andō built an extensive career as a scriptwriter across many popular super robot and science fiction series. His credits include episodes of UFO Robo Grendizer, Great Mazinger, Steel Jeeg, Brave Raideen, and the 1979 version of Cyborg 009. He also worked on several entries in the Transformers franchise, including The Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, Victory, and the OVA Transformers Z. Andō sometimes took on additional responsibilities beyond episode writing; he provided series composition for Groizer X and handled story development or layouts for series such as Great Mazinger and Steel Jeeg. His body of work reflects the landscape of 1970s and 1980s Japanese anime, particularly the mecha and action genres, with a career that also extended into live-action tokusatsu and television dramas. Through his substantial output and his singular credit as the originator of Cybot Robotchi, Andō contributed to the foundational period of many enduring robot anime franchises.
