Michel Vocoret was a French actor, director, and screenwriter born on October 2, 1938 in Rampillon, Seine-et-Marne, France. He passed away on November 13, 2016 in Courbevoie, Hauts-de-Seine, France. Beyond his on-screen career, he became a prolific voice actor, lending his voice to numerous animated series and films, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. His career in entertainment began long before his voice work, as he was also a stage director and actor, appearing in many plays broadcast on the French television program Au théâtre ce soir. He was a close friend of the famous French comedian Fernand Raynaud and, decades after Raynaud's death, authored a book titled Mon ami Fernand Raynaud in his memory. Vocoret retired from the cinema and entertainment world in 2003.
In the realm of animation dubbing, one of Michel Vocoret's notable roles was the character Chef Cyclope in the classic Franco-Japanese animated series Ulysses 31. This science-fiction reimagining of Homer's Odyssey, which first aired in 1981, featured Vocoret providing the voice for the Cyclops in the French-language version of the show. His performance as the imposing Chef Cyclope stands as a key example of his work in the anime genre during its early rise in popularity in France.
Beyond Ulysses 31, Michel Vocoret's voice acting portfolio is extensive and includes several major roles in popular animated series from the 1980s and 1990s. He was the French voice of the primary antagonist Skeletor in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. He also voiced the character Grubby in The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin and Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century. Vocoret had a longstanding association with Disney dubbing as well, most notably being one of the French voices for the character Pete, also known as Pat Hibulaire, in various Mickey Mouse featurettes and specials from the late 1980s to 1991. His other animation voice credits include voicing Rataxès in the Babar television series, playing various characters in Mighty Ducks, and roles in Fraggle Rock and Les Mondes Engloutis.
Throughout his career, Michel Vocoret also dubbed numerous live-action performances for French audiences. He provided the French voice for actor Patrick Stewart in the 1984 film Dune, for John Candy in the 1987 comedy Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and for Robbie Coltrane as Dr. Eddie "Fitz" Fitzgerald in the television series Cracker. His extensive body of work in dubbing for both animation and live-action made him a familiar and respected presence in French media.
