William Sabatier was a French actor and voice actor born on May 22, 1923, in Gentilly, France, who passed away on March 17, 2019, at the age of 95. Before becoming widely recognized for his voice work, he was a stage veteran with a career in theater spanning from 1948 to 1988. In addition to his stage work, Sabatier appeared in bit parts on film and had several television roles between 1958 and 1984. He is perhaps best known for his extensive work as a dubbing artist, providing the French voices for numerous prominent Hollywood actors. He was the regular French voice for performers such as Marlon Brando, Richard Harris, Rod Steiger, Karl Malden, Charles Durning, and Fred Dalton Thompson, and he was also one of the French voices for Gene Hackman and John Wayne.

Within the realm of animation and anime, Sabatier was a prolific voice actor. In the classic Japanese-French anime series Ulysses 31, he provided the voice for the god Hades. His work in animation also included roles in other internationally co-produced series. He was a voice actor in The Mysterious Cities of Gold, known in French as Taiyô no ko Esteban, and in The Legend of Prince Valiant. Sabatier also lent his voice to characters in feature-length animated films. He played the role of King Colbert in the French dub of the 1994 film Thumbelina, and he voiced the character Pepère in the French version of Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, released in 1986. Throughout his career, Sabatier was frequently cast in the roles of authority figures, bringing a distinctive presence to commanders, chiefs, and other powerful characters.
