Barbara Radecki
Description
Barbara Radecki is a Canadian actress recognized for her work in voice acting for anime, as well as for numerous roles in live-action film and television. She is best known for her contributions to the English dub of the Sailor Moon franchise. A graduate of the University of Windsor, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and was awarded the Governor's Medal for academic achievement in her class.
Radecki's most prominent anime voice role is Michelle Kaioh, also known as Sailor Neptune, in the English version of Sailor Moon S and related films. She first voiced the character in the television series and subsequently in the movies Sailor Moon S the Movie: Hearts in Ice and Sailor Moon SuperS the Movie: Black Dream Hole, both released in 2000. Beyond her work as Sailor Neptune, she provided voices for other characters in the same series, including Ikuko Tsukino (Serena's mother) and Queen Serenity in the first episode of the original English dub. A unique aspect of her recording experience for the show was that she recorded her lines together in the same booth with actress Sarah LaFleur, a practice that is uncommon in anime dubbing where actors typically record separately.
In addition to her voice work, Radecki has an extensive career in live-action television, with guest appearances on a wide range of series from the late 1980s through the 2010s. Her credits include roles on shows such as The Twilight Zone, La Femme Nikita, Goosebumps, Queer as Folk, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Warehouse 13. She has also appeared in numerous television films and feature films, including 54 and Three to Tango.
Beyond acting, Radecki has established herself as a writer. She co-wrote the award-winning blog The Middle Ages and is the author of a coming-of-age young adult novel titled The Darkhouse. She also co-wrote the screenplay for the 2020 film Modern Persuasion.
