Lydia Leeds

Description
Lydia Leeds is an American voice actor best known for her work on the English-language adaptation of the seminal anime series Space Battleship Yamato, which was released in the United States as Star Blazers. Her career in voice acting is closely tied to the early days of anime localization in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Leeds is most recognized for portraying two significant characters from different seasons of Star Blazers. Her primary role was that of Queen Starsha, the benevolent ruler of the planet Iscandar who provides Earth with the technology to save itself from radioactive destruction in the first season of the series. In the second season, known as Star Blazers: The Comet Empire, she also voiced the character Trelaina (spelled as Trelena in some sources), the sole survivor of the planet Telezart.

Leeds was part of the core cast assembled by the production company Westchester Films for the English dub, which was produced in New York. She frequently worked alongside a regular troupe of voice actors, including Eddie Allen (who played Leader Desslok and Dash Jordan), Kenneth Meseroll (Derek Wildstar), Amy Howard Wilson (Nova Forrester), and Tom Tweedy (Mark Venture). Her connections to the production were notably personal; fellow cast members Frank Pita, who voiced Dr. Sane, and Michael Bertolini, the voice of Homer Glitchman, were acquaintances of Leeds from their college years, and she was instrumental in helping them secure their roles on the show.

Leeds's work on Star Blazers is a notable achievement in anime history, as the series was one of the first popular English-translated anime to feature a serialized, arc-based plot, helping to pave the way for future anime fandom in the West. Beyond this franchise, documented information about her acting career is sparse, as she is primarily associated with this specific production from this era.
