Jo Doumerg

Description
Jo Doumerg was a French actor and stage director who worked extensively in voice dubbing for animation. Born Joseph Jean Gabriel Doumerg on June 21, 1941 in Montpellier, France, he died in Paris on March 24, 2010 following a battle with cancer. While he had a career in live-action television and film, appearing in productions such as Plus belle la vie as Fernand Mirbeau and in Jean de Florette, he became well known to anime audiences through his French voice work.

Doumerg's most recognized anime voice role was as Oncle Kevin in the French dub of the series Lady Georgie, known in French simply as Georgie. This series, produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and based on the shōjo manga by Mann Izawa and Yumiko Igarashi, aired in France from 1983 to 1984. In the story, Oncle Kevin is a close friend of the Baker family who is aware of the secret surrounding the adoption of the main character, Georgie. Multiple French dubbing databases confirm his involvement in this production, with some sources also noting that he occasionally voiced additional minor characters in individual episodes of the series.

Beyond Lady Georgie, Doumerg's animation dubbing credits from the 1970s through the 1990s include several other notable titles. In the French adaptation of Les Chevaliers du Temps, he voiced the characters Tonk and Captain Rapace. He also performed as the narrator and as M. Lajustice in Ninja Boy, as Miyagi in the Karaté Kid animated series, and in various roles for the series Christophe Colomb. His work extended to dubbed animated films as well, including providing voices for the French versions of Black Jack: The Movie, Metropolis, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, in which he voiced Mr. Mulch. Doumerg's career demonstrates a steady presence in the French dubbing industry from the mid-1970s through the 2000s, contributing to both television series and feature films.
