Barb Mitchell is a film, television, theatre, improv, and voice actress based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Before transitioning to acting full-time at the age of 42, she spent over twenty years working in television news as a reporter, anchor, writer, producer, national correspondent, and morning show host. As a voice actor, she is known for providing the English dub voice for the character Maria Graceburt in the Sunrise anime franchise My-Otome. This role appears in the main My-Otome television series as well as the OVA sequel My-Otome Zwei. Maria Graceburt is a strict teacher and administrator at Garderobe Academy, a school for Otome warriors, and is a member of an older generation of Otome. Beyond her work in anime, Mitchell has an extensive background in live performance, having honed her skills on stage in Shakespearean classics such as Richard III, Titus Andronicus, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth. She has also performed in dramatic productions like The Graduate and enjoys musical theatre, with credits including Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Nunsense. Mitchell is a member of the vocal group Revv52 and is part of several improvisational theatre ensembles, including the Loose Moose Theatre Company.
