Alifred Yamamoto
Description
Alifred Yamamoto is the original creator behind the manga and anime franchise Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It. Yamamoto is credited as the sole writer and illustrator of the manga series, which began serialization on March 16, 2016, in the digital magazine Comic Meteor, published by Flex Comix. The series, known in Japanese as Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shōmei Shite Mita, was still ongoing as of mid-2023, with its fifteenth compiled tankōbon volume released in June of that year.
Yamamoto’s original work has served as the foundation for a significant multimedia franchise. The manga was first adapted into a four-episode live-action television drama that aired in September 2018, followed by a live-action feature film that premiered in February 2019. A television anime adaptation produced by studio Zero-G later followed, with its first season airing from January to March 2020. The success of these adaptations led to a second anime season, which was announced by Yamamoto on social media in October 2020 and subsequently broadcast from April to June 2022 under the title Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It: r=1-sinθ. The mathematical formula in the second season's title is notable for its ability to plot a heart shape on a graph, a theme central to the series' identity.
The series, for which Yamamoto is the sole creative author, is a romantic comedy set in a university laboratory. It follows two science-oriented researchers who, upon developing feelings for each other, attempt to define and prove their love through empirical methods, scientific experiments, and data analysis. This core premise of applying rigorous scientific methodology to the concept of romantic love forms the recurring thematic and comedic foundation of Yamamoto’s work.
