Cris Camargo
Description
María Cristina Camargo Colmenero is a Mexican actress and dubbing director with a career spanning more than six decades. Born on December 22, 1950, she began voice acting as a child, influenced by her uncle, the renowned actor and director Francisco Colmenero. Her extensive body of work includes voice roles in animation, live-action dubbing, and particularly anime, where she is known for several iconic characters.
Camargo is perhaps best recognized by Latin American audiences as the definitive Spanish voice of the title character in the classic anime series Heidi, a role she took on at the age of twenty-three. Within the Dragon Ball franchise, her contributions are significant. She initially voiced the dual character of Lunch starting from episode fifteen of the original Dragon Ball series. She later became the first and most well-known voice of Android 18 in Dragon Ball Z, holding the role for the entirety of the original series and several films. She also voiced the character Puar following the departure of the original actor. Camargo returned to reprise the role of Android 18 for the 2013 film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. While she did not continue the role in subsequent series like Dragon Ball GT or Dragon Ball Super, where the character was voiced by other actresses, her portrayal in Dragon Ball Z remains highly recognized.
Beyond Dragon Ball, her notable anime roles are extensive. She was the first voice of Saori Kido in the Spanish dub of Saint Seiya (Los Caballeros del Zodiaco). She also voiced Hotaru Tomoe, also known as Sailor Saturn, in Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, as well as other characters in the franchise like Molly Osaka and Berjerite. Her career includes voice work for a wide array of other productions, including Robin Hood, The Rescuers, Chip 'n' Dale, A Bug's Life, and the Mexican educational series Odisea Burbujas, where she voiced the character Mimoso Ratón. In addition to performing, Camargo has also worked as a director, translator, and adapter of scripts for dubbed productions.
