Mao Itou is a Japanese voice actress known for her work in anime and video games. She is affiliated with the talent agency KeKKe Corporation. She was discovered through the Seiyu Awards新人発掘オーディション (Newcomer Development Audition), which served as her entry point into the voice acting industry. Growing up in Mie Prefecture, Japan, where she was born on May 16th, she was influenced by her mother's interest in subcultures like anime and manga from a young age. One of her early motivations to become a voice actor came during elementary school when she visited a recording studio on a school trip; later, during a difficult personal time, she was healed by a character's line and set her sights on becoming the performer behind such a voice.

One of Itou's most prominent roles is China Kuramoto in the Gakuen iDOLM@STER game. She has spoken about the challenging audition process for this role, noting that it was the first audition she ever passed. The character of China Kuramoto required a unique tone and delivery, which she worked hard to analyze and interpret. Her other video game credits include roles in Verse Saver as Mysterious Teen, Alice in the Land of Spades ~Wonderful Black World~, and Puchitto Sangokushi ~Yurutto Tenka Tōitsu, where she voiced the characters Xiao Qiao, Da Qiao, and Cai Wenji. In the anime world, she is cast as Rinna Sarukawa in the second season of the figure skating series Medalist, a role that has been announced in multiple news sources covering the show's new cast members.

Aside from singing and illustration, which are also her hobbies, Itou is skilled in playing the French horn.
