Dorian Harewood

Description
Dorian Harewood is an American actor and voice actor born on August 6, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio. His career in animation voiceover began around 1994, and he has since become known for providing voices in numerous cartoons and Japanese anime series dubbed into English.

One of Harewood's most significant roles in anime is that of Dr. Umataro Tenma in the 2003 adaptation of the classic series Astro Boy. In this English dubbed version, Harewood voices the brilliant but troubled roboticist who creates the title character, Astro Boy, after the death of his human son. This portrayal is notable for presenting Dr. Tenma as a primary antagonist, a departure from earlier versions of the story, with Harewood using a deep and elegant vocal tone to convey the character's complex and often cold personality. He also reprised the role of Dr. Tenma for the 2004 Astro Boy video game.

Beyond Astro Boy, Harewood's extensive voice work includes a wide range of roles in American animated television series, many of which are in the superhero genre. He was a voice actor for the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, where he provided the voice for the character Metalhead and served as an alternate voice for the villain Shredder. His work within the DC Comics animated universe includes roles in Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Legion of Super Heroes. Similarly, in Marvel Comics adaptations, he contributed to series such as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and The Spectacular Spider-Man. Other notable animated projects include Biker Mice from Mars, Space Jam, and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest.

Throughout his career as a performer, Harewood has received industry recognition. In 1994, he won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his recurring live-action role as Clarence "Cool Papa" Charleston on the NBC series I'll Fly Away. He has frequently collaborated with other prominent voice actors, including Jim Cummings and Frank Welker.
