Alphatart

Description
Alphatart is a South Korean author recognized as the original creator of the popular web novels and manhwa series The Remarried Empress and Men of the Harem. On library catalog records and official publications, Alphatart is identified as a novelist and the writer of the original stories upon which the manhwa adaptations are based.

The Remarried Empress began as a web novel serialized on Naver Web Novel from November 2018 to March 2020, with its chapters later collected into eight volumes. The story follows Navier Ellie Trovi, the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire, who is forced to accept her husband Emperor Sovieshu's demand for a divorce after he falls for another woman. She shocks the court by calmly requesting approval for her remarriage. This property was adapted into a manhwa, or Korean webtoon, which started serialization on Naver Webtoon in October 2019. The manhwa adaptation of The Remarried Empress is produced with art by Sumpul and adaptation by Herelee, and has been published in English by Ize Press.

Alphatart is also the creator of Men of the Harem, another fantasy manhwa that began publication in November 2020. The story centers on Latrasil, an empress who decides to create her own harem of five male consorts, mirroring the traditions of the emperors before her. For this series, Alphatart is credited with the original story, while Herelee handles the writing adaptation and Yeongbin provides the illustration. English language editions are published by Ize Press, an imprint of Yen Press.

An academic study published in the Journal of Popular Narrative in 2025 analyzed Alphatart's narrative strategies, positioning the creator as a significant figure in the web novel market and a narrative designer within the romance fantasy genre. The study notes that Alphatart commonly employs prolepsis, presenting a provocative event first and then gradually revealing the preceding context, alongside narrative repetition that allows readers to reinterpret events and build empathy with the protagonist's psychological development. The protagonists in Alphatart's works are often described as following a trajectory of trials and competition, growing into self-actualizing women, reflecting contemporary gender sensibilities. The illustrations created in collaboration with artists such as Chirun are noted for their lavish, delicate style that combines painterly realism with classical ornamentation, fulfilling the visual expectations of the romance fantasy genre. Due to the success of these properties, a television series adaptation of The Remarried Empress is scheduled for release in the second half of 2026.
