Ryohgo Narita is a Japanese author of light novels and manga, born on May 30, 1980, in Tokyo, Japan, who was raised in Saitama Prefecture. He made his professional debut after winning the Gold Prize in the 9th Dengeki Novel Prize in 2002 for his manuscript Baccano! The Rolling Bootlegs, which was published as a light novel the following year.

Narita is the original creator of several major light novel series that have spawned extensive manga and anime adaptations. His debut work, Baccano!, is set primarily in various time periods of a fictionalized United States, most notably during the Prohibition era, and follows a large cast of characters including alchemists, thieves, and mafia figures whose lives intersect after the creation of an immortality elixir. The series was adapted into an anime television series in 2007. Following Baccano!, Narita launched Durarara!! in 2004, which tells the story of a dullahan working as an underworld courier in the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo, alongside an anonymous online gang and a cast of dangerous local figures. The Durarara!! light novel series concluded with thirteen volumes in 2014, and has since been followed by sequel and spinoff series including Durarara!! SH. The main series was adapted into multiple anime television seasons beginning in 2010.

Beyond these foundational works, Narita is credited for a number of other original and collaborative projects. He created the light novel series Etsusa Bridge, set on a giant abandoned bridge turned into a city of outcasts, and Vamp!, which focuses on vampires and supernatural creatures living on an island in Germany. In manga, he is the original creator behind Dead Mount Death Play, a series about a necromancer reincarnated in modern Japan, which received an anime adaptation. He also created the manga series Stealth Symphony and Kuroha Nijisuke. Within established franchises, Narita has written several light novel spinoffs, including Bleach: Spirits Are Forever With You and Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, as well as Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc IF. He is also the author of Fate/strange Fake, a light novel series set in the Fate universe depicting a distorted Holy Grail War in the United States, which has been adapted into an anime special titled Fate/strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn- with a full television series in production.

Narita's artistic identity is characterized by his use of large ensemble casts and multi-perspective storytelling. He has stated that he rarely designates a single main character, preferring to let readers decide for themselves, and his narratives frequently blend first, second, and third-person viewpoints. His works often depict the extraordinary within ordinary settings, juxtaposing supernatural elements and underworld criminal activity with everyday life. Many of his original series, including Baccano!, Durarara!!, Etsusa Bridge, and Vamp!, are known to exist within a shared universe, with characters and organizations making cameo appearances across different titles.

In the light novel and anime industry, Narita is recognized for his significant output and the successful adaptation of his series across multiple media. He has maintained collaborative relationships with notable illustrators such as Katsumi Enami and Suzuhito Yasuda, who have provided artwork for his major series. He has also participated in collaborative projects such as the Red Dragon role-playing game replay, which involved several prominent writers. Narita continues to write multiple ongoing series, including new installments of Baccano!, Durarara!! SH, Fate/strange Fake, and Dead Mount Death Play.
