Description
Fleeing a fantasy world where her black hair marked her as a cursed outsider, the young witch Roséstalia, known as Rosé, uses her magic to tear open a portal to another dimension. She lands not in a grand adventure but on Sado Island, a quiet rural community off the coast of modern-day Japan. Disoriented and immediately attacked by a local crested ibis, she is rescued by Sana Tsuchiya, a warm-hearted and capable island girl. Sana, who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by the close-knit community, offers the suspicious and penniless Rosé a place to stay.
The story follows the pair as they navigate everyday life, with Rosé using her considerable magical abilities to help with local problems, from finding a lost child to preparing for a village festival. While Sana eagerly introduces Rosé to the island's culture, cuisine, and history—such as its famous gold mines and the Sazae festival—Rosé slowly learns to trust and accept genuine kindness for the first time. Their peaceful coexistence is challenged when they discover Sana has inherited a significant debt from a missing relative, putting their home at risk and forcing them to find creative ways to earn money.
Rosé is a reverse isekai protagonist whose magical prowess and desire to help were scorned in her home world, leading to deep-seated insecurity and a stiff, formal demeanor. Sana is her optimistic and resilient counterpart, a natural tour guide who speaks some English and is fiercely protective of her home. Together, they form an unlikely family, exploring themes of found belonging, the quiet beauty of rural life, and healing from emotional wounds. The series balances gentle slice-of-life moments with comedic misunderstandings and the occasional burst of magic, all set against the backdrop of Sado Island's real-world traditions and landscapes. An anime television series adaptation has been announced.
