Description
A thick layer of clouds has enveloped the planet for a hundred years, blocking all sunlight. Plants have withered, and the atmosphere’s oxygen level is dangerously low. To survive, humanity developed transfloration, a technology that transforms humans into plants. The process is officially reserved for the terminally ill, but participants receive a large monetary reward for the two years the transformation takes. This creates a stark choice: continue living as a human in a desolate world, or begin a new life as a plant.
Toshiro Kamiya sees no future in his human existence. He once dreamed of becoming a musician, but his poor grades and the need to pay for his sick mother’s medication have crushed his hopes. After his mother steals his savings, he decides to undergo transfloration. His childhood friend Yomiko Horai, who works at a transfloration clinic, carries out the procedure. During the transformation, Toshiro unexpectedly gains the ability to understand the language of plants. His mother again takes his money, leaving him destitute, so he uses his new power to find work: searching for transformed plants on behalf of their families and communicating with them.
The story follows Toshiro as he navigates this strange role, uncovering the hidden truths behind transfloration and the society that depends on it. Conflicts arise with a violent plant creature named Ivy, and Toshiro’s involvement with a group of rebels and the shady practices of Transflora Medical force him to question the ethics of the entire system. The narrative arcs explore personal sacrifice, economic desperation, the boundary between human and plant, and the moral cost of a technology that trades one life for another.
