Description
Otes, originally dubbed the "Hologram Man," served as an engineer in Goha Corporation's Development Department. He engineered the Sevens Road card series and covertly revolutionized dueling by embedding a backdoor into Goha's system via "The Relic" artifact. This enabled him to challenge duelists during full moons, spawning the urban legend of the "King of Duels." Aiming to shatter Duel Monsters' stagnation, he sought worthy candidates to usher in a new era of entertainment. His first major move involved entering a Goha tournament, where he advanced to the finals only to face disqualification under company rules prohibiting employee participation. Departing the event, he encountered young Yuga Ohdo and designated him as his successor, gifting him the "Sevens Road Magician" card.

Otes tested numerous duelists for the "King of Duels" title, challenging Lucidien "Luke" Kallister six times and losing each duel per Luke's testimony. He later confronted Nail Saionji, fracturing Saionji's grip on the dueling network while foreshadowing imminent changes to restore dueling's joy. In the series' debut episode, Otes dueled Yuga Ohdo within the Relic's chamber as Yuga attempted to install Rush Duel programming. Wielding a Blue-Eyes deck, Otes rapidly summoned "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" under Rush Duel rules. Yuga overpowered him using "Sevens Road Magician" and "High Magic - Double Accel," prompting Otes to commend Yuga for forging a "new road" and erasing penalties against Yuga and Luke. Afterward, Otes vanished, leaving seven symbols that coalesced into Seven Hells Hall's emblem.

In later duels, Otes adopted varied decks. Against Luke, Gavin Sogetsu, and Romin Kassidy in a three-way clash, he deployed a Red-Eyes deck focused on "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" and burn damage cards like "Inferno Fire Blast." Facing Yuga Goha, he utilized a Dark Magician deck featuring "Dark Magician" and "Dark Magician Girl," bolstered by spells such as "Thousand Knives" and protective traps like "Dark Reincarnation." His duel record remained unblemished by victories, tallying multiple losses: to Yuga Ohdo in Episodes 1, 43, and 90–92, and to Yuga Goha in Episodes 53 and 81.

Otes' goals shifted from revitalizing dueling to orchestrating its annihilation. Disillusioned by Goha's inflexible control, he later feigned amnesia after a loss to Yuga Goha, unveiling his scheme to purge all dueling data and reconstruct the system. This climaxed in a final space duel against Yuga Ohdo. Post-defeat, Yuga propelled them both into lightspeed, stranding Otes in the Sengoku period. There, he devised Rush Duels to cease wars but inadvertently birthed a fresh cycle of oppression. His legacy persisted beyond his disappearance: his "Earthdamar" manifested as "The Creator," an entity dispatched millions of years into the past that spawned the Velgearian alien race and ignited endless conflict. Additionally, his abandoned future-timeline headset enabled others to impersonate him, swaying events in later series.

The name "Otes" originates from "Otis," tied to the Goetic demon "Botis," and reverses "Seto"—a nod to Seto Kaiba, whose Blue-Eyes deck Otes emulated. His decks consistently honored iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! figures: the Red-Eyes deck referenced Atticus Rhodes, while the Dark Magician deck echoed Yugi Muto. Otes' attire included a red-and-yellow mask, a black jumpsuit with a yellow zipper, a white knee-length coat adorned with gold designs and a red interior, and white knee-high boots trimmed in gold.
