Description
Akira Fudo is the central character of the Devilman saga, a shy and gentle Japanese teenager who lives with the Makimura family while his parents work abroad. Before his transformation, he is known for his weak physique and timid nature, yet he possesses a pure heart, a strong will, and a deep capacity for empathy and compassion, especially toward those who suffer. His life is irrevocably changed by his best friend, Ryo Asuka, who orchestrates a ritual to expose demons hidden within human society. During the event, Akira is possessed by Amon, a powerful and brutal demon lord. Through an extraordinary act of will and his inherent kindness, Akira retains his human consciousness and emotions while absorbing Amon’s demonic essence, transforming into Devilman. He dedicates himself to a secret war against demons, using the power of evil to protect humanity, even as he is seen as a traitor by his own kind. His primary motivation is his love for Miki Makimura, the daughter of the family he lives with, who represents peace and everything worth protecting. His relationship with Ryo is deeply complex and tragic, as Ryo is later revealed to be the demon lord Satan, making them both allies and ultimate nemeses. Throughout the narrative, Akira endures immense suffering, culminating in the public lynching of Miki by a paranoid human mob. This event shatters his faith in humanity, yet he continues to fight as a tragic hero, defined not by his demonic powers but by his fragile, loving, and unbreakable human spirit. As Devilman, he possesses phenomenal strength, speed, durability, the ability to fly with wings, project energy beams, breathe fire, and regenerate from severe wounds. Despite his terrifying form, Akira remains a gentle soul at his core, often weeping for the suffering of others.
