TV-Series
Description
Kei Shikina is a supporting character known for her role as the chief of the Nayuta Laboratory, the primary research and development facility for the Heart Hybrid Gear technology within the Ataraxia organization. Physically, she is depicted as a short, petite young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, almost always seen wearing her glasses and a standard uniform. Her youthful and more childish build stands in contrast to her best friend, the commander Hida Reiri.

Personality-wise, Kei is consistently calm, studious, hardworking, and highly intelligent, traits that are essential for her position overseeing Ataraxia's advanced technology. However, she is also notably shy. This shyness manifests in a very distinctive quirk: she almost never speaks aloud using her natural voice. Instead, she prefers to communicate with nearly everyone through a keyboard or a console, having her words appear on a floating window. The only person with whom she seems comfortable enough to speak directly is her closest friend, Reiri.

Kei's primary motivation and role in the story are tied directly to her duties at the Nayuta Lab. She is the person in charge of Ataraxia's technology, responsible for maintaining, explaining, and developing the various systems that the Heart Hybrid Gear pilots rely on, including the function of the Love Room. Her work is often conducted from behind a bank of consoles, providing crucial technical support and information to the combat teams. Despite her behind-the-scenes role, she is a vital asset to the organization because of her expertise and intelligence.

Her most significant relationship is undoubtedly with Hida Reiri. They share a deep bond as best friends, a connection that predates much of the story's current conflict. Kei's loyalty to Reiri is absolute, and she serves as one of Reiri's most trusted confidantes. However, this relationship has a layer of complexity, as Kei harbors strong, romantic feelings for Reiri. These feelings become a source of internal conflict and jealousy when Reiri begins spending a considerable amount of time with her younger brother, Kizuna, for the mandatory Heart Hybrid sessions. Kei's jealousy over Reiri's attention on Kizuna is a notable aspect of her character.

Her feelings for Reiri also contribute to a surprising and more comedic side of her personality. Despite her generally shy and reserved demeanor, Kei has a hidden perverted curiosity. She has expressed a strong interest in observing the Ecstasy Hybrid sessions that Reiri participates in with Kizuna. Claiming it is for research purposes, she has been known to secretly record these encounters, revealing a voyeuristic streak that contrasts sharply with her studious public image.

In terms of development, Kei's character does not undergo a dramatic transformation but rather sees her existing traits explored. Her deep-seated jealousy and devotion to Reiri become more apparent as the narrative progresses, especially as Reiri's relationship with Kizuna deepens. While her primary function remains that of a technical operator, her emotional attachments to the key players add a layer of personal stake in the events unfolding around her.

Regarding notable abilities, Kei Shikina does not pilot a Heart Hybrid Gear or participate in combat. Her abilities are intellectual and technical. She is a prodigiously skilled scientist and engineer, capable of managing the complex Nayuta Lab and its many experimental projects. Her signature skill is her rapid and precise typing, which she uses as her main form of communication with the majority of the cast, and her ability to control and explain the lab's various systems, such as the Love Room.
