TV-Series
Description
Sana Futaba, a magical girl from Chuo Ward, endured profound social isolation and emotional trauma stemming from severe familial neglect. Following her biological father's death, her mother remarried a university professor, granting Sana two stepbrothers. Her family consistently demeaned her lack of academic or athletic prowess, ultimately expelling her from all interactions and restricting communication to email. This rejection drove her to contract with Kyubey and wish to "disappear" or "become invisible," explicitly desiring to vanish from a world where she felt worthless. Kyubey granted the wish literally, rendering her invisible and inaudible to all non-magical beings, erasing her from her family's memory and societal existence.

Her personality reflects prolonged emotional abuse, manifesting as extreme introversion, chronic self-doubt, and negative self-perception. She habitually apologizes, assumes blame in conflicts, and fears abandonment. Despite this, she exhibits gentleness and loyalty, seeking purpose through service to others. Her self-worth remains intrinsically tied to external validation, particularly from confident individuals.

Physically, Sana possesses pale teal hair styled in pigtails with yellow beads, teal eyes, and a petite build. Her magical girl form adopts a knight motif with a silver breastplate, armored cuffs, leg guards, and a green-trimmed white skirt. She wields an emerald-green, gold-trimmed shield as her primary weapon, complemented by steel boots, a crown-like headband, a white veil, and a waist cape.

Her magical abilities derive directly from her wish, enabling undetectability to non-magical beings, including evasion of extrasensory perception. In combat, she utilizes her shield defensively and summons offensive torture implements like chains, drills, or pendulums. Upon full corruption of her soul gem, she manifests the Doppel Theresia—an invisible entity bound to an interrogation chair. Theresia attacks with explosive blood and exhibits two behavior patterns: one provides team support through defense buffs and healing, while the other indiscriminately assaults all targets with status ailments like burns or binds if manifested from Sana's right ear.

Sana's development centers on relationships formed post-wish. She initially found fleeting companionship with the Uwasa "Anonymous Al" (Ai), an entity representing loneliness, but Ai's death left her isolated again. A pivotal bond began when Iroha Tamaki recognized Sana's invisibility and offered genuine friendship. This connection drew Sana into Mikazuki Villa, a sanctuary for magical girls, where she gradually navigated social integration. Though she remains anxious about inconveniencing others, exemplified by misunderstandings with housemate Felicia Mitsuki, Iroha's consistent reassurance helps Sana internalize her value beyond servitude. Her narrative in "Magia Exedra" reinforces this growth, with Sana acknowledging Mikazuki Villa as a home where she "truly mattered."

Trivia notes include her affinity for the children's puppet show "Mr. Pursss-A-Lot" (or "Gorogoro the Kitten"), a childhood comfort during isolation, and her fondness for cats, exemplified by her bond with a stray named Miss Purrs. Her surname "Futaba" translates to "two leaves."
